The ability to Improvise music is a skill anyone can develop. It takes work and a lot of practice. But the good news is that there are some fine instructional books and CDs that help you along the way to becoming a creative musician. Hearing music in your mind is great if you can do it. But hearing it and then being able to play it are two different things. Even if you can't hear music in your mind yet, there are fundamental skills you can learn: chord construction, chord progressions, interval recognition, walking basslines, motives, riffs, scales, mode, rhythm patterns, rhythmic independence.
