Get ready to have more fun at that next party, family celebration,

Consider giving lessons at a surprise birthday or seasonal gift.
"How did you get so interested in dance?" I asked Ed, a
mutual acquaintance who enjoyed charming the ladies with a lot of
cool moves.
"A girlfriend gave me a gift certificate for a series of dance lessons. I didn't know how to dance at all at the time. That gift changed my life forever!" he said with a gleam in his eye and a big smile.
You may want to commission Phil to help get everyone dancing at a wedding reception, birthday party or other celebration. Everyone will learn some new cool steps. Often women arrange for gift dance lessons.
But it's not always the woman giving these gift. "I'd like to start lessons right after the new year," Carl said giving me his phone number. "If a woman answers, don't let on about the dance lessons. It's going to be a surprise Christmas present!".
Besides ballroom dance lessons in Roseville and Sacramento, Phil is developing free online ballroom dance lessons in the form of animated "movies." His often quoted article on Nightclub two step contains a link to a movie that shows the basic foot work for that dance. If you study privately with Phil, you can have the advantage of receiving customized dance and piano lesson reviews via email and through various Internet media: for example, animations, film clips.
I don't have a dance partner. Do I need to find one before I start lessons?
No. Since Phil has had formal dance teacher training; he can dance the part of either the leader or follower during the lesson. In this way, he can help you develop either leading or following skills, which are so important in social dancing.
If you have a dance partner, you may bring him or her to the lesson without incurring an extra charge. In other words, the cost of the lesson is split among all those attending the lesson. In some cases, several couples or a group may want to schedule private group lessons. The total cost for larger groups vary, but the cost is usually only about $5 to $10 a person for larger groups.

From Phil, you can learn dances like:
tango (American or Argentine tango)
cha-cha
salsa
swing
waltz
rumba
fox trot
quickstep
hustle
nightclub two-step
boleroArgentine tango dancing is quite varied: it can be sweet and romantic or bold and sharp. Argentine tango is is not difficult if taught correctly, but it can be a struggle at first for those who have already learned balllrom tango. That's because Argentine tango is more of an improvised dance and the steps, body positioning and body posture are quite different in Argentine tango. Also Argentine tango is done mainly at special Argentine tango parties -- it isn't done much in American ballrooms where mostly American and International tango music is played. Argentine tango is probably more suited for wedding dances than American tango because the Argentine style can be so romantic -- and also because Argentine tango fits well with many different kinds of music, even jazz..For more details, checkout my free online Argentine tango dance lesson. Instructional videos can accelerate your learning. You can find a comprehensive series of tango videos, here.
Cha-cha (cha-cha-cha) and salsa are fast dances bested suited to Latin music. Historically salsa came first and then cha-cha which has a couple of extra quick steps evolved from salsa. For more details see my article on cha-cha.
Swing is a fast dance best suited to older big band music. There are many different kinds of swing: city swing, East Coast swing, West Coast swing, Saint Louis shag -- to name a few. The term "city swing" was invented by promoters at a major ballroom in San Francisco when swing was "all the rage" in the year 2000. Some call city swing the geriatric style because it's easier and requires less effort. In city swing (leader's part), you step side (to the left), then side (to the right). Then you do a rock-step. In more advanced styles, you do a "triple-step" instead of a simple side-step.
Waltz is a traditional that has been handed down to us for centuries! It is often done to slow gentle music, but there is a fast waltz, too, called Viennese waltz.
Rumba is often called the dance of love. It is best danced to slow Latin ballads. It makes a great first dance for a married couple at a wedding reception.
