Announcing a Saxophone Course

(See also Phil Seyer's lovemusiclovedance.com home page.)

Michael Furstner has announced a saxophone course. Here's what Michael has to say about it:

Jazclas has just introduced a new SAXOPHONE COURSE. I am confronted again and again with the simple fact that most saxophone students have no real concept of how to play their instruments. An unfortunate result of the parrot fashion teaching which is still widespread in this otherwise modern age. As a result many saxophone players never reach their full potential in term of tone development.

The Jazclass Saxophone course aims to remedy this situation. The course is suitable for all players from beginners to advanced. It is great fun and provides you with concepts, practice methods and exercises that will guide you through the rest of your sax playing life.

1. Course Outline

The Saxophone Course consists of 10 lessons. Each lesson will be sent to you by Email. It consists of a HTML document and attached gif files for
illustrations, and notations of exercises and songs. Play-a-Long midi file tracks are downloaded from a discreet Jazclass web page.

The first 5 lessons are sent at the rate of 1 lesson per week. They are mainly conceptual, with only light practice requirements. The last 5 lessons will be sent at the rate of 1 lesson every fortnight. This is where the action really hots up as far as practice is concerned. You will practise of course at your own speed, but the longer periods will help you to absorb the various aspects better.

The whole course will give you sufficient material to practice for a considerable time. Most exercises can in effect be used throughout a whole lifetime of practice.

The Lesson topics are :

Lesson 1 The Concept of Resonator Control
Lesson 2 Posture
Lesson 3 Embouchure, Mouthpiece, Reed
Lesson 4 Air Support and Breathing
Lesson 5 Voicing : Basics Concept
Lesson 6 Overtones and Overtone Practice
Lesson 7 Articulation
Lesson 8 The Vocal Registers
Lesson 9 Fingering Principles
Lesson 10 Vibrato Exercises
